About

Experienced technical teaching with calm, structured explanations.

Hello, I'm Garrie. I'm an experienced private tutor from the Glasgow area, specialising in mathematics, physics, chemistry, computing, and engineering from SQA Higher and A level through to undergraduate and postgraduate degree modules.

I graduated top of my class with a First Class Honours degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Glasgow, and have published research on advanced aerospace systems.

Over the years, I have helped hundreds of students across a wide range of qualifications and modules. Some have worked with me from secondary school through to university graduation, building strong results and genuine subject confidence. Others have come for focused support before a crucial exam, to raise a grade for a university offer, prepare for entrance exams, or return to study after a break.

My approach focuses on clear explanations, structured problem solving, and developing genuine understanding, not just memorising methods.

A brilliant tutor. Garrie understands his subject thoroughly and is an exceptional teacher/tutor. He prepares comprehensively for lessons, generates understanding of the most complex subjects really quickly and most importantly builds confidence. I will recommend Garrie without question. Thank you Garrie and thank you FirstTutors for helping us to find him.

FAQ

Common questions

Answers to some frequently asked questions. If it's not covered here, just get in touch.

Do you offer online lessons?+

Yes. Online lessons are available with a 5% discount, and work well for maths, physics, chemistry, computing, engineering, and university-level technical subjects. Lessons take place on Zoom, with screen sharing and handwritten worked solutions in real time. After each session, I'll send you a PDF of what we covered, along with any other resources you need.

Do you provide past paper resources?+

Yes. Over the years, I've built a large library of resources for subjects at different levels, including past papers going back decades. You will not need to spend more on textbooks or past papers; you'll have the practice material you need.

Do you tutor from your home or travel to students?+

Lessons can take place online, from my home workspace, at the student's home, or somewhere in between, where location and availability allow.

What levels do you teach?+

I tutor Scottish Highers and Advanced Highers, UK AS and A levels, college courses, and undergraduate and postgraduate engineering modules.

Can you help with university resits?+

Yes. I regularly help students prepare for resits in engineering mathematics, mechanics, electronics, fluid mechanics, control, MATLAB, and related subjects. Even if time is short, a few focused sessions can make a meaningful difference.

Do you provide ongoing weekly tutoring or one-off help?+

Both. Some students book regular weekly sessions, while others get help with a specific exam, assignment topic, or difficult module. My approach is tailored to the time available and the depth of understanding you want to build.
